Philips L’OR Barista Coffee and Espresso Machine Review

Today I’m doing a review of the Philips L’OR Barista Coffee and Espresso Machine. This little gem goes for about $190, and it’s pretty awesome because it can make both coffee and espresso! The catch? You need to use L’OR coffee capsules or Nespresso pods for the espresso, but don’t worry, they’re easy to find.

The Pods and Cost Breakdown

So, here’s the deal with the pods. The L’OR coffee pods are about 86 cents each, and the espresso pods run around 60 cents. Not super cheap, but you can hunt for cheaper Nespresso-compatible pods if you want to save a few bucks. Just keep in mind, L’OR is the only one making these specific coffee capsules.

Brewing Options

This machine is super simple to use. Want coffee? Pop in the bigger L’OR coffee pod. Want espresso? Grab a Nespresso pod. The machine automatically figures out what type of pod you’re using, which is pretty cool. All you have to do is put the pod in, close the lid, and press a button.

Here are the brew sizes:

  • Coffee: 5 oz, 8 oz, or 12 oz
  • Espresso: 1.4 oz, 2.7 oz, or 3.7 oz

Performance and Design

The machine has a 19-bar pump (which means it packs a punch), and uses 1450 watts. It’s got a removable water tank that’s easy to refill and a drip tray to catch any spills. The build feels pretty solid with a metal handle, although some of the plastic parts feel a bit on the cheaper side. It also comes with a decent length cord, so you’re not stuck right next to the outlet.

One thing I love? It brews fast and super hot. My espresso was at 186°F, which is perfect for a good, strong shot.

Easy Cleanup

After brewing, the machine automatically dumps the used pods into a little bin, so you don’t have to worry about them until it’s time to empty. One thing to note: there’s a little water that collects in the tray, so you’ll need to dump that out now and then.

The pods are aluminum with a fine grind coffee inside, and the machine pierces them perfectly every time for a great brew.

My Take

Honestly, the Philips L’OR Barista is a great machine if you’re looking for something easy and versatile. The coffee it makes is rich and strong, perfect for people who need a little extra punch in their morning brew. And it’s so simple—just pop in a pod, press a button, and boom—great coffee or espresso in no time.

The only downside? You’re a bit tied into the L’OR coffee capsules for regular coffee, which limits your flavor options compared to a regular drip machine or Keurig. But hey, if you love a strong, intense coffee, this machine is totally worth it.
